Key Dates & Deadlines
Car test (ITV)
First test at 4 years old, then every 2 years, then every year once it is over 10. Book ahead in summer, stations get busy.
Non-resident property tax (Modelo 210)
Own a home here but not tax-resident, and don't rent it out? You still owe a small annual tax. File and pay by 31 December for the previous year.
If you rent your property out
Rental income is now declared once a year, filed between 1 and 20 April for the previous year.
Overseas assets (Modelo 720)
Tax residents with more than €50,000 abroad in any one category (accounts, investments or property) must declare it by 31 March.
Spanish income tax (Renta)
Tax residents file the annual income tax return between April and the end of June.
Padrón (town hall register)
Non-EU residents, which now includes UK nationals, must renew their registration every 2 years or risk being removed from it.
UK driving licence
Exchange a UK licence for a Spanish one within 6 months of becoming resident. Thanks to the UK-Spain agreement, there is no test to take.
Council tax (IBI)
Your annual council property tax is collected by SUMA. The payment window is set each year, usually in autumn. Check your SUMA notice or suma.es.
